Sing-Song : A Nursery Rhyme Book : With The Original Wrapper

Description

The First UK printing published by Macmillan and Co, London in 1893 of this new and enlarged edition. The BOOK is in Very Good++ condition. Original green ribbed moiré silk cloth, titles gilt to spine, all edges gilt. The spine is very lightly toned. The edges, corners and folds are mildly rubbed with a little light markings to the covers. Offsetting to the blank end-papers. One penned gift inscription dated 1912 to the front blank end-paper, otherwise internally very clean with just a few light spots in places. The WRAPPER is complete and is in Very Good+ condition. Slight loss at the corners and at the upper spine tip. Light age related markings with a light spotting in places. A little creasing to the edges. Light dustiness and toning to the spine. The red lettering is only lightly faded. A closed tear to the rear upper spine and rear flap folds. A small area of loss to the lower front cover edge. The wrapper looks very attractive in the removable Brodart archival cover. The New and enlarged edition of Christina Rossetti's illustrated book of nursery rhymes with 120 illustrations by Arthur Hughes, engraved by the Brothers Dalziel. Rossetti's nursery rhymes were first published in 1872, but was expanded for this edition, retaining the charming illustrations of Arthur Hughes. Most of the B&W Ink Illustrations, by Arthur Hughes take up almost half a page. The full page tissue guarded frontispiece illustration shows a mother singing to her baby, in a pastoral setting. Extremely scarce to find in collectible condition with the original wrapper.
