Volcano : Inscribed And Signed By The Author
DescriptionThe Sole UK printing published by Jonathan Cape, London in 1931. The BOOK is in Very Good++ condition bound in the publisher's original red cloth with blind stamped titling. Light pushing to the spine ends and mild spotting to the text-block. Advert for other Cape books concerning Russia bound in preceding the final page of text. The WRAPPER is neatly price-clipped and is in Very Good++ condition. A little chipped at the extremities with a few nicks and mild creasing. Some light toning to the spine. The photo-montage design wrapper artwork looks striking in the removable Brodart archival cover. The book has been inscribed by the author to the front blank end-paper: 'To Mr and Mrs A. Kirkham, with best wishes for Christmas, and better luck for us all in 1932, from Amabel Williams-Ellis'. The recipient was Albert Kirkham, chief assistant to her husband Clough Williams-Ellis. The author, nee Strachey, was the daughter of John St. Loe Strachey, and thereby cousin (once removed) to Lytton et al. and on the fringes of the Bloomsbury Group. A scarce collection of short stories of revolutionary Russia. Collectible.
