Third edition. 30, [1]pp, 6 coloured plates, 2 tinted plates, 2 black & white plates, 2 black & white line drawing plates, and colour specimens in the text, complete as listed in the directions to the binder. A very good clean copy in contemporary half morocco, neatly rebacked and with expert repairs to the corners, retaining the original marbled paper boards, and the gilt morocco label to the upper cover. oblong 4to. Clay. 1816. ~ First published in 1811 it was one of the first English manuals to include actual colour samples, only predated by Mary Gartside’s Essay on Light and Shade (1805). All early editions are now very scarce, especially in such good condition
