BEES The Naturalists' Library: Entomology. Vol. VI

Description

Three quarter leather over marbled paper covered boards. Marbled end papers. Small octavo, [xvi] 17-301pp. with 32 Plates, many hand colored, including a portrait of Huber and a frontispiece. Shelf wear to the covers with some rubbing to the edges. Sound binding. This volume forms the sixth and final entomological installment in Sir William Jardine's celebrated Naturalist's Library. Written by James Duncan, it is devoted primarily to the natural history, anatomy, behavior, and management of honey bees while also describing numerous species of wild bees. The work combines practical beekeeping with contemporary scientific knowledge and is illustrated with finely hand-colored plates engraved from nature, together with a memoir and portrait of François Huber, whose pioneering observations transformed the scientific study of bees. - wickisource.
