Birds of the British Isles, drawn and described by John Duncan

Description

Limited edition: pasted in note of limitation ‘Edition Limited to 350 Numbered Copies. This is Number 210.’ With Subscribers List and the extra tipped in Subscribers Omitted list. Also included is a copy letter from Duncan, dated Nov 30/98, from his from Monkseaton, Whitley, RSO [Railway Sub Office] address. In this letter, Duncan explains “The bird drawings are reproductions in prepared metal from pen and ink sketches”. He also says that “At the time the cuckoo was drawn the Bird Book was not thought of”. Pasted inside the back cover is a cutting from the London Review, 20 Nov 1898, titled “A Unique Bird Manual”. The reviewer describes this book as having “… 400 pictures of British birds, with descriptive details to each, the whole forming a quite unique manual …” one which “… no ornithologist can well afford to be without …”.
