Folio. First edition. Recent red half-leather with red cloth sides. Spine with five raised bands and a title label in black leather, gilt. Top edge gilt. New endpapers. Numerous drawings and black and white photographs throughout. Slight yellowing to page edges, otherwise fine. Covering the period from Henry VIII to the outbreak of the French Revolution, this standard work includes Inigo Jones, Sir Christopher Wren, the influence of Grinling Gibbons and the low-relief decoration introduced by the Adam brothers.
