First edition; 16mo; original boards and glassine dust jacket; 17 black and white plates. Loosely inserted are two hand written postcards from Gertler to his Aunt Annie. Both hand addressed by Gertler to the verso. Together with a small oblong printed invitation card issued by Messrs. Ernest Brown & Phillips Ltd. to the private view of an exhibition of Recent Paintings by Mark Gertler at The Leicester Galleries in Leicester Square, London, on 8th October 1932, annotated by Gertler with the name of the recipients, also members of his family and a further invitation card to the 1941 Memorial Exhibition of Gertler’s work at The Leicester Galleries. Mark Gertler (1891-1939 ) born Marks Gertler, was a British painter of figure subjects, portraits and still-life. Gertler was a contemporary of Paul Nash, Edward Wadsworth, C. R. W. Nevinson, Stanley Spencer and Isaac Rosenberg, among others. Gertler's major painting, Merry-Go-Round, was created in the midst of the Great War and was described by D.H. Lawrence as "the best modern picture I have seen". Fine.
