Three-quarter leather, rebacked with spines laid on. Some light scuffing to boards. Off-setting of the plates; occasional foxing; some small puncture holes and chips to the margin of the plate opposite p. 221; an internal tear (7cm long) to the fore-edge margin of p. 405; a short, unobtrusively repaired tear to the margin of the folding map at the end of Vol. 3. Each volume bears the bookplate of Novar of Raith: Ronald Craufurd Munro Ferguson, 1st Viscount Novar (1860– 1934), the sixth Governor-General of Australia from 1914 to 1920.
