Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte

Now very rare. Gresham Pulishing had engaged Talwin Morris around 1897 - 1900 to create designs for series of literature books. Morris' art nouveau designs include the white dots to the board corners, being the designer's mark. The preface by Currer Bell to the second edition is printed. Charlotte Bronte is still using the pseudonym in 1847 in which she mentions 'the timorous or carping few who doubt the tendency of books such as Jane Eyre '... whose ears detect in each protest against bigotry - that parent of crime - an insult to piety ... I would remind them of certain simple truths ... Conventionality is not morality. Self-righteousness is not a religion'. Illustrator J H Bacon
