The Allies’ Fairy Book


Undated (1916, 1st ed. thus). A charming collection of fairy stories from each of the Allied nations fighting together during the first world war. The message is that fairies, who are “people of peace" and “have no politics”, are “So independent of racial prejudice” that they recognise only one law: “Be kind to those who are kind to you”. 8vo. xxii, 122pp. plus 12 colour plates and numerous in-text illustrations in black and white. Colour illustrations have titled tissue guards. Pages are tight and clean and all illustrations present. Front and back free endpapers are shadowed; there is an ‘Ex Libris’ bookplate pasted onto front free endpaper and a booksellers’ label pasted inside front cover.
