The Causes of the Decay of Christian Piety

The author of Causes, a dangerous polemical religious text, is not directly ascribed. Among those said to have written it include John Fell, Richard Sterne, Lady Pakington (Dorothy Coventry), Humphrey Henchman, and, more probably, Richard Allestree, sometime Rector of Eton and a Royalist, from which point this text examines the issues. The alternative title is An Impartial Survey of the Ruines of Christian Religion, Undermined by Unchristian Practice. Written in 1658. A short work, Private Devotions, completes the book.
