The History and Antiquities of the County of Suffolk: With Genealogical and Architectural Notices of Its Several Towns and Villages [Two Volume Set]Description
First Edition; A handsome set bound in half-leather with marbled boards; five raised bands with gilt decoration(worn) to spines with gilt titles to red panels; The standard county history though never completed, covering only the Hundreds of Wangford, Mutford, Lothingland & Blything. Suckling fell out with his publisher and issued the second volume himself by subscription. The remaining copies of vol.1 seem therefore to have been destroyed by Weale, leaving a surplus of vol.II which is thus often found alone. Suckling was born on 31 January 1796 in Norwich. He was educated at Pembroke College, Cambridge, where he matriculated in May 1814. He was ordained at Norwich on 15 October 1820 & on 10 July 1839 he was instituted on his own petition to the rectory of Barsham in Suffolk, which he held until his death.Price
