24 volumes, set, including the plate. #51 of 877 sets. Publisher’s coloured buckram. Black leather title labels. Edges untrimmed. Top edges gilt. Engraved title vignettes and plates, facsimile wrappers from the original parts. Illustrated throughout, mostly from the original plates or blocks which were then dispersed with the sets. This set includes the original steel-engraved plate of “Mr. Minns and his Cousin” by George Cruikshank from Sketches by Boz, housed in a boxed volume together with a print and a typed letter of authenticity from the publisher, signed by Arthur Waugh the Deputy Chairman of Chapman & Hall. All volumes uniformly faded on spines. Some damage to the leather labels on the spines of Great Expectations and Reprinted Pieces. A few scattered marks to covers and a small indentation to the rear board of Letters volume 1. Very good+.
