YORKSHIRE WOLDS. An attractive and very accomplished mid-19th century sketchbook of rural views and villages, all within a ten mile radius in the Yorkshire Wolds. It begins with two views of Brantingham, the first mounted on the front cover depicting All Saints Church, followed by a view looking down the road into the village, with houses and two figures. Just a few miles east the next is a fine view to the River Humber over St Helen’s Church, Welton, and another of Welton Springs. Next comes Ferriby Church, again just a few miles to the east, and the final view within the book is of St Austin’s Stone [near South Cave] with a long hand-written description on the facing page. The rear cover has a view along Welton Dale. The pencil drawings are all of professional quality, and bound in contemporary quarter red morocco, with ornate embossed floral frame to each board, in which a drawing has been mounted. set within a gilt border. Each illustration has its original tissue guard. 185mm x 235mm. c1850.
